Pakathon 2015

As directed by HEC, Universities from Pakistan were encouraged to participate in an International Business Plan Competition i.e Pakathon 2015.

After the Vice Chancellors approval our first step was to meet with the heads of the departments of Management Sciences and Mass Communications. Several aspects of a well-rounded team and their mentoring were discussed. The ORIC team then met with the students that were interested in participating and held sessions with them in the botany seminar room. After discussing their ideas the teams were made and students from both departments were paired together. Ms Mobina from the management sciences held a two hour session along with ORIC and guided and mentored them at the end of which we had two elaborate ideas. Since we had only two properly thought out ideas we decided to use them both since 3 submissions were to be made from each university. Both ideas which were finalized were as follows:

·         Hydroponics on roof top

·         GPS system to monitor the arrival timings of the public transport buses in Lahore

The students were guided through various details such as the material of the video and the filming of it was also monitored. ORIC was in constant communication with HEC and Pakathon Global officials. A rough draft of the videos was submitted on the 30th and they could be edited till the 4th of November so the final versions were uploaded then. The videos were power point presentations with voice overs.

Final round of Pakathon was held on 8th November, 2015 from 9pm-2am PST. The team working on the Hydroponics project got a call and made it to the finals in Toronto, Canada. Five teams from Pakistan (LCWU, NUST, IBA, and University of Malakand) were selected and a total of twelve teams participated in the competition. The team from LCWU participated through Skype. The video prepared by the team was shown at the event which then followed by the question and answer session by the panel of judges. The students answered the questions confidently. The teams who won had presented ideas related to social causes.
