LCWU in collaboration with Cranfield School of Management UK, National University for Modern Languages (NUML), Centre for Global Innovators (CGI), and Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) has won British Council DICE grant for Social and creative Incubation Programme. The one year grant has been awarded for capacity building of women entrepreneurs and will support up to 20 start-ups at LCWU. ORIC in collaboration with Centre of Global Innovators (CGI) initiated the 1st call for startups 2019 at LCWU; 101 teams applied for this programme. After scrutiny, 40 teams were shortlisted and called for parallel presentation/interview on 18th March 2019 at Biotechnology Seminar Room, Biotechnology Meeting Room and Architecture Computer Laboratory. The panel of judges included staff member from CGI that are Mr. Ahmed Mujtaba Khan (Program Manager, NUML), Mr. Abdur Rehman (IT Lead) and Muhammad Kamran (Program Manager, LCWU), Mr. Sohail Sarwar (Digital Business transformation Consultant) and staff members from LCWU that are Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor (Worthy Vice Chancellor/ Director ORIC/CoD Zoology) Prof. Dr.Shagufta Naz ( CoD Biotechnology/ Director Research), Prof. Dr. Zohra Kayani (Professor Physics Department/ Senior Manager ORIC), Dr. Neelma Munir (Assistant Professor Biotechnology Department), Ms. Yasmin Abid Mann ( CoD Architecture Department) and Dr. M Zia-ul- Haq (Senior Manager ORIC). As a result, 20 teams were selected to participate in this Programme.

 

 

ORIC participates in Inspire - Pakistan Knowledge Forum 2018


ORIC, LCWU participated in Inspire-Pakistan Knowledge Forum 2018 organized by the Lahore Knowledge Park Company (LKPC) at the center of excellence in Molecular Biology, Lahore. The participants were led by Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, Senior Manager Industrial Linkages and Dr. Aqsa Shabbir, Senior Manager Research and Development and comprised of Dr. Shagufta Naz, assistant professor, Zoology department and students from Electrical Engineering and Zoology Department.

The forum was intended for initiating and pursuing a meaningful dialogue about Pakistan’s transition towards a knowledge-based economy. Dr Attaur Rahman, UNESCO science laureate and former federal minister for science and technology served as the chief guest and enlightened the participants through his talk titled “Exciting World of Discovery”. Further, the participants benefitted from an insightful panel dialogue which was moderated by LKPC Chief Executive Officer Dr Zubair Iqbal Ghouri and included panelists such as Prof Dr Fazal Ahmed Khalid, UET Vice Chancellor, Khurram Zafar, National Incubation Centre executive director and Marium Mohiuddin from Social Innovation Lab.



The participants were enlightened about the importance of entrepreneurship and also learned that the need of the hour is applied research which commercializes and address the current societal needs. Dr. Aqsa Shabbir observed that despite the importance of applied research, fundamental research should not be ignored as it is essential for creating new knowledge.
